Viotek Reaper RFI25CBA review | Gadgetmasti

One minute review

Gaming monitors are often difficult to spot – the balance between screen size, resolution, and refresh rate are all crucial factors in choosing the most responsive panel. The Viotek Reaper RFI25CBA tries to take the guesswork out of this buying decision by delivering a knowledgeable gaming monitor that apparently ticks all the right boxes.

Connectivity is plentiful here, with everything from PCs to game consoles to mobile phones working perfectly with this panel. The fast 144Hz refresh rate is sure to make FPS gamers jump for joy, and just about every game we’ve played had smooth frame rates.

It’s also the first Viotek monitor we tested that is actually fully adjustable, so you’re no longer stuck with the monitor height at a fixed level. You can also rotate the monitor to portrait mode, which makes it ideal for streaming software or monitoring a Twitch chat if you’re streaming your game.

There are a few sticking points with this monitor as well, but they are mostly minor – steady LEDs and squashed Picture in Picture modes are two that come to mind. Overall, the Viotek Reaper RFI25CBA is a great, affordable gaming monitor that will be welcome in any gaming setup.

Pricing and availability

The Viotek Reaper RFI25CBA is available now and priced at $ 299.99. It’s available directly from the Viotek website, as well as Amazon, and it’s often priced much lower – it’s currently on the Viotek website for a very attractive price of $ 199.99.

This firmly positions it as a ‘bang for your buck’ monitor, where you get pretty much what you pay for. There are of course other monitors on the market that may offer even high refresh rates or features, but they won’t be offered at this price point.

Design

The Viotek Reaper RFI25CBA looks like most gaming monitors, with an all-black design with a few muted red accents here and there. The V-shaped stand takes up a bit more space on your desk, but connects to a fully adjustable monitor stand that lets you position or rotate the screen to suit your needs. It’s a welcome change for Viotek, whose monitors in the past only had a cheap fixed mount with little room for adjustments.

The monitor has two red LEDs on the front and two LED slots on the back, presumably to really convey that this is a gaming monitor. The lights unfortunately cannot be changed to another color, you can either turn them off completely or flash them.

The panel itself has fairly thin bezels, so having two of these monitors side by side for a dual monitor setup won’t be a problem. There is a small Viotek logo on the lower bezel and a low power LED on the lower right side.

The Reaper’s support, as mentioned before, is fully adjustable, but also hides two additional features. There is a handy headphone holder that pops out at the top in case you want to hang your headphones on the back. You can also remove the backplate from the stand to thread it through your power and display cables, before putting the panel back in place to hide everything. This results in a very clean setup and is a much appreciated feature. You can also completely detach the bracket and use the included mounting screws to mount it on a VESA monitor arm.

Another good feature of the Reaper is the OSD control – previously we had to settle for multiple buttons to scroll through the options, but this time around Viotek got rid of everything and just used a little joystick to scroll and select various options. It’s pretty easy to press the joystick and navigate with it, so that’s another welcome change.

Performance

The Viotek Reaper offers a plethora of connectivity options depending on your needs. There is a USB-C port that can be connected to a PC or compatible smartphone, or you can opt for DisplayPort (1.2) for optimal PC connectivity for the best refresh rates. There are two HDMI ports – one with v1 .4 and v2.0, keeping in mind of course that HDMI will only take you to 120Hz.

The Reaper’s 25-inch IPS display supports a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080, which is suitable for most gamers who aren’t interested in 1440p games or don’t have a PC powerful enough to play. higher resolutions. It’s a size good enough to clearly read in-game text and menus, and is quite enough for this price.

There are a number of display options to adjust the brightness, contrast, color, and image quality. The display is also FreeSync and G-Sync compatible, but that only works through a DisplayPort connection. You can also cycle through the onscreen reticles to help you aim, but we found that enabling this option had little benefit to our gameplay.

Game performance on the Reaper was quite good in a variety of games – Destiny 2 looked fantastic as we traveled across the snowy plains of Europe, while Overwatch was bright and colorful during fast-paced action. frantic. The darker areas of some Tomb Raider levels didn’t feel washed out, and we had really good color reproduction and really good clarity throughout our hours of play.

Watching Netflix and YouTube was equally enjoyable, with vivid and clear colors across a variety of shows, from cooking shows to nature documentaries. Viewing angles on the Reaper are pretty good – you’ll have the best experience when you’re seated right in front, but even at a slight angle the colors were still vivid and not washed out. Console gaming is also quite good, and for anyone who wants to use this monitor for next-gen gaming on a budget, you’ll be happy with its performance.

The Reaper also has a Picture in Picture mode as well as Picture by Picture if you want to see two connections simultaneously. For PiP, this is useful when you want to keep tabs on a download to another PC or updating the console, and you can adjust the size of the second screen as well. Image by Image mode is something we would find no use for. For larger screens that would make sense, but on this 25-inch model it’s a waste of time – the screen is split at a very narrow resolution, making it barely usable.
