One minute review
Remington has been manufacturing hair care appliances since 1937, and in addition to offering some of the best hair dryers on the market, the brand also offers a range of styling tools, including hair straighteners.
The Remington Hydraluxe Pro S9001 Straightener, known as the Remington Proluxe HydraCare 1-Inch Flat Iron in the United States and Australia, complements the Remington Hydraluxe Pro EC9001 Hair Dryer. However, rather than using ionic technology to preserve hair’s moisture levels, this styler delivers a fine mist of cool water to the hair, which Remington says helps prevent heat damage.
The 2.5 cm / 1 inch wide ceramic plates also transfer micro-conditioners as they pass through the strands to keep hair looking healthy, while built-in sensors regulate the temperature on the plates to ensure that a single pass is enough to straighten or curl the hair.
The Remington Hydraluxe Pro Straightener S9001 straighteners offer five temperature settings ranging from 170°C / 340°F to 230°C / 450°F, while the convenient boost feature raises the temperature to the highest setting with just one tap. The straighteners will even store the last used temperature in the device’s memory, so you don’t have to constantly adjust the styler.
In the test, the Remington Hydraluxe Pro S9001 straightener warmed up quickly and glided easily through our hair. Although this is one of the more expensive corded straighteners we’ve tested, small touches such as the ability to lock the plates together, a silicone sleeve for easy storage, and a long swivel cable from 3m / 9ft will definitely be appreciated by those considering this. hairdresser.

- Shiny metallic finish
- Built-in sensors regulate temperature
- Can heat up to 230 C / 450 F
The Remington Hydraluxe Pro S9001 straightener is one of the more unusual stylers we’ve tested. It sports a slightly curved design, measuring 4.08 x 4.15 x 30.85cm / 1.6 x 1.63 x 12.15 inches (hxwxd), which makes it quite bulky compared to some models we have tested. The glossy white metallic finish looks sleek, but proved a problem when trying to grip the straightener securely while styling.
At the bottom of the device, you will find a 7ml / 0.2 fl oz water reservoir, which can be removed and filled using the pipette that comes with the styler. Along the front right of the straighteners, next to the bottom plate, is an outlet where the mist created by the water reservoir is released during styling.
The power button, temperature up and down controls and the Hydracare button for emitting mist are located on the right side of the top plate, while a display on the straighteners handle illuminates the selected temperature in white. There are five temperature settings ranging from 170 C/340 F to 230 C/450 F, and there’s a handy lockout feature that ensures that this temperature will be automatically selected the next time the straighteners are turned on.
As already mentioned, the plates are 2.5cm / 1 inch wide which is standard for most hair straighteners on the market, while the tapered end ensures the plates can be tightened too close as possible to the hairline. A lock at the bottom of the flat irons holds the plates together for easy storage, and a silicone sleeve is provided for added protection.
The Remington Hydraluxe Pro S9001 mains-powered straightener has a 3m cable that, like most models we tested, rotates 360 degrees for easy handling when straightening or curling hair. These straighteners will also automatically turn off after 60 minutes.
- A single pass was enough to straighten the hair
- Mist function left hair looking healthy
- The water tank was cumbersome to fill
During the test, we were impressed with the Remington Hydraluxe Pro S9001 straightener. The Barber was relatively quick to heat up, taking just 32 seconds to reach 170°C / 340°F – although this increased to 1 minute and 10 seconds when the maximum heat setting was selected.
The Hydracare Mist technology resulted in a noticeable difference in the condition of the hair after straightening. It looked shinier and healthier than usual – although the water reservoir proved difficult to fill. Also note that it had to be filled in after fully combing our shoulder length fine hair three times.
The extra-long cable made it easy to style hair on the back of the head, and the tapered tip of the straightener meant it was possible to squeeze the styler at the roots to start styling. However, we struggled to grip the styler well when curling the hair, due to the shiny metallic finish.
The temperature boost feature was useful, allowing the straighteners to go from their current temperature to the maximum heat setting with a single tap, as was the ability to lock the temperature so the device would automatically heat to that level when it is reignited.
