A new batch of leaks has revealed that Nvidia plans to cut the prices of its GeForce RTX 3090 and 3080 graphics cards. If true, these price cuts will happen just before the launch of the company’s Lovelace GPU.
According to Bank life (opens in new tab) and reported by VideoCardz (opens in new tab)The price cuts are said to happen sometime this week, although there’s no word on an exact date. It will presumably affect the following: best graphics cards: 3090 Ti, 3090, 3080 Ti and 3080.
Benchlife’s Leaked Document Reveals That The New MSRPs De RTX 3090 Ti for $1,499, the RTX3090 for $1,299, the RTX 3080 Ti for $1,099, and the RTX3080 for $799. There are no reports at this time as to whether the other cheaper 3000 series graphics cards will also see price cuts.
It seems that these rumors are supported by several online retailers, who are already starting to post reduced prices. However, the price drops were not in line with the leaks. For example, Newegg is releasing new prices for all high-end cards except for the RTX 3080. EVGA’s US direct store is publishing all leaked new MSRPs, but BestBuy is only pushing the price drop for the 3090 Ti.
Analysis: why lower prices now?
It would make sense for Nvidia to cut prices for its high-end Ampere stock, especially since Lovelace’s graphics cards are launching soon.
Numerous rumors do the RTX 4090 graphics card with a base clock of 2235MHz with a boost up to 2520MHz (although it is possible that overclocking can increase that to 2750MHz). And coupled with other leaked specs, it looks like this card could be up to twice as powerful as the RTX 3090.
With those kinds of impressive specs on the horizon, Nvidia would definitely try to cut the prices of the 3000 series as we can see how expensive these cards have been. Not to mention that thanks to the recent decline of crypto miningthe tech giant is get tons of stock back that it must clear for the incoming Lovelace.
Keep in mind that these are all suspicions based on unconfirmed leaks, so take it with a grain of salt.
