It might be the smallest multicooker in the line, but Ninja Foodi’s SmartLid 11-in-1 Multicooker isn’t exactly small. It measures 33 x 35 x 36cm / 13.07 x 14.21 x 15.39 inch (hxwxd) and at 10.9kg / 24lb, it’s not light either, so you won’t want to move it around in and out of a closet every day.
This Ninja SmartLid range uses a three position slider on the lid and allows you to select cooking functions based on the slider position. This ensures that the cover is always properly locked or unlocked for the function you are using.

We have used several different cooking methods and prepared delicious meals with this easy to use device.
We started by making French fries in pieces using the Air Fry function. One of the great advantages of this multicooker is that it comes with many cooking charts giving advice on times and settings. So we followed the suggestion for chunky fries and set it to 22 minutes. While cooking, we flipped and stirred the fries three times to help them brown. At the end of the 22 minutes, we added three more minutes to increase the browning to our liking which resulted in deliciously crispy fries with soft centers.
To steam the broccoli, we again followed the advice on the cooking chart, adding water to the pot and placing our broccoli florets on the reversible rack. The grid is perfect for large vegetables but will not work for small pieces as they will fall through. We steamed it for six minutes, there was a seven minute preheat but after the total cooking time of 13 minutes the broccoli was perfectly done and al dente. While cooking, steam escapes from the back of the appliance, so it is best to be near an extractor hood or a window. If you put it under a shelf or cupboard, you will get condensation from all the steam.
Cooking the perfectly textured brown basmati rice was easy. The cooking chart did not disappoint us giving the perfect time for pressure cooked rice, but you may have to experiment if you want to make more or less than the suggested amount. Setting it to pressure cooking on high power was easy, it was preheated for seven and a half minutes, then baked for an additional seven minutes. The graph suggests a delayed pressure release, so we left it for 10 minutes before placing the valve in the vent position, which quickly released any remaining steam. The 25 minute cooking time is only slightly longer than stovetop cooking, but the results were perfect and it’s nice not to have to worry about it.
We used the pressure cooker again to make a Thai red curry, first browning the chicken thighs using the sauté function. The base of the pot is not flat and we noticed that all of the oil was settling on the outer edges which meant we had to place the chicken on the edges to make sure it was fried in the oil . This was probably the biggest drawback when using this device. That said, the chicken has browned nicely and it’s not too much of a problem if you keep moving and stirring your ingredients.
Once the rest of the curry ingredients were in the pan, we put it to pressure cook on high power for 20 minutes. The preheat was nine minutes and at the end of cooking we flipped the pressure relief valve to the vent position which took three and a half minutes and recorded 77dB on our decibel meter which equates to sound. of a car traveling at 65 mph.
Releasing the pressure is easy but involves placing your hands near the area where the steam is released, you can make it safer by using pliers to move the valve. The chicken was cooked beautifully and fell off the bone at the end of cooking.
To make a slow cooking chili, we again used the stir-fry feature to brown the beef and vegetables before setting it to slow cook on high power for six hours. The chili thickened considerably during cooking, giving us a rich and flavorful dinner with very little effort.
Lastly, we tried the new Steam Fry feature which claims crispy foods as well as steaming to keep them moist and succulent. Following the suggestions in the cooking chart, we added water to the pot and placed two chicken breasts with the skin on the grill. The steam preheating took six minutes and then it started counting down our 20 minute cooking time.
As when using the steam only function, it emits a lot of steam through the vent in the back and the noise level is similar to that of air frying. The sides of the lid hit 45 ° C / 113 ° F which is the hottest temperature we recorded outside of this device in one of our tests, for the most part it stays cold enough to be touched. At the end of cooking, the chicken was soft and succulent on the inside but with a very crispy golden skin on the top, an excellent result.
