The filmmaking duo Raj Nidimoru & Krishna DK has been in Bollywood since 2003. But the two made national headlines with their 2019 spy thriller series The family man on Amazon Prime Video.
The second season of The Family Man in 2021 turned out to be an even bigger hit than the first season. The hot-shot director-writer team is also reportedly working on the series’ third season. However, there is no official word about it.
But Prime Video’s great rival, Netflix, has sort of tricked them into a multi-year deal. It’s not like Raj & DK, as they’re called, are new to the Netflix universe. They are already the directors and showrunners of a Netflix comedy-crime web series set in the 90s called Weapons & Gulaabs, including Dulquer Salmaan and Rajkummar Rao. The duo had also previously produced the Netflix original in Telugu, Cinema Bandic.
So Netflix hasn’t exactly poached Prime Video’s talent. But it’s indeed a big catch for Netflix, as it has signed a multi-year contract with them, meaning they’ll be tied to the streamer for at least the next few years.
Question Mark About The Family Man Season 3
Netflix today announced the “multi-year creative partnership” with the two in a statement. Under their D2R Films banner, Raj & DK will develop and produce their upcoming projects for Netflix.
Monika Shergill, VP-Content, Netflix India, said: “Raj & DK are one of the most original creative voices in the country. In addition to their unique and ingenious storytelling style, they are also a powerhouse. We are excited to continue our relationship with them for a multi-year creative collaboration that will bring superlative entertainment to Netflix members around the world.”
The platform did not specify how long the contract is binding.
For their part, Raj & DK said: “Netflix is a streaming pioneer, backed by its unwavering, passionate support for filmmaking and filmmakers. We look forward to creating great, unique stories and challenge storytelling to exciting and fresh spaces.”
What is happening to Raj and DK now in the domain of Netflix? The family man Season 3? At the end of the second season, it was revealed that the next season would include the Covid-19 pandemic and China’s attack on India’s northeastern states.
In a recent interview (opens in new tab)the protagonist of the series Manoj Bajpai, who plays the role of Srikant Tiwari, said: “It is up to Amazon Prime to decide when they will talk about the third season. I don’t know when my manager will be called for the dates. But it will happen.”
So the shooting hasn’t started yet. At best, the series could start streaming in 2023. But with Weapons & Gulaabs and the Netflix contract vying for their attention, how much the duo can focus on the series, which has earned them both name and fame, is open to debate.
