Google follows in Apple’s footsteps: Pixel phones are likely to be made in India

In a big shot in the arm for the Indian government’s make-in-India initiative, Google is considering moving some of its Pixel phone production to India. Of course, the likely move to India could be motivated by the fact that China, from which Google has produced the device so far, is in the US’s crosshairs. Also, production schedules in China have yet to recover after being disrupted by Covid-19 lockdowns.

It should also be said that Google’s earlier move in 2019 to move some of its Pixel device production from China to Vietnam didn’t work out well. So bets need to be placed on how things will turn out with regard to Google now planning to move some production to India.
